**JOB NO:** 540138 **WORK TYPE:** Staff Full-Time **LOCATION:** Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) **CATEGORIES:** Biology/Life Science, Social/Behavioral Science, Physical/Mathematical Sciences **DEPARTMENT:** 29770100 - MD-Transplant Center - Admin **CLASSIFICATION TITLE:** Medical Scientist I **CLASSIFICATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:** Bachelor's degree in health sciences, medical engineering, biology or a closely related life science field. **JOB DESCRIPTION:** The Transplant Center in conjunction with the Department of Surgery, is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Medical Scientist I position to assist with clinical research for faculty in the division of Transplant Surgery. This position will assist in research that includes complex studies involving critically ill subjects being treated with procedures that may result in moderately severe adverse events, therapeutic intervention trials involving organ biopsy. This position is expected to work independently, however, the PI is always available for consultation. Normal business hours are M-F, 8A-5P, however, there is flexibility as the timing of the work hours will vary to include nighttime, weekend and/or holiday hours on an as needed basis dependent upon patient availability. Daily hours should be flexed not to exceed 40 in a pay week when possible. The beginner scientist will perform procedures following general instructions from the PI and learn to recognize problems and unexpected results. Once problems are identified, s/he will present the issues in the regular lab meeting and propose potential solutions for further discussion. S/he will be responsible for data collection, organization, and analysis.
