Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience. **JOB DESCRIPTION:** As part of the Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism at UF Health, this OPS Genetic Counseling Assistant position serves a Genetic Counseling Assistant and is part of a team assisting genetic counselors with ordering and tracking genetic testing and metabolic nutritionists with newborn screening laboratory follow up. In the course of their duties the incumbent will, under the direction of the Genetic Counselors and metabolic nutritionists be responsible for the coordination of insurance authorization and genetic/metabolic testing coordination for the purposes of genetic diagnostic testing and newborn screening follow-up. **Genetic Test Coordination:** - Prepares patient records for clinical genetic testing and research testing. - Facilitates sample collection (blood, saliva, etc.) and prepares the genetic testing kit for shipping. - Works closely with various laboratories during the pre-authorization process. - Executes requests for primary care physician’s medical necessity letters. - Understands the genetic testing criteria as it pertains to different laboratories and insurance companies. - Understands Medicare guidelines for testing pre-authorization. - Assists in necessary preparation of documentation for test processing. - Develops and maintains relationships with nationwide genetic, medical and research laboratories. - Guides patients through genetic testing process: completing paperwork, facilitating sample collection (blood, saliva), and prepari
