The Pediatric Oncology Research Nurse I is a Registered Nurse who manages the direct care of pediatric patients enrolled in clinical trials within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This position reports directly to the Oncology Research Nurse Manager. Subject to business needs, a flexible work arrangement, 4- or 5-day work week, is available. Options will be discussed during the interview process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · **DIRECT PATIENT CARE** o Conduct informed consent discussions / obtain informed consent o Attend and/or perform research visits o Perform/review required protocol assessments o Perform physical assessments within the scope of their nursing practice o Ascertain real-time drug accountability o Monitor patient responses intra- and post-study drug administration (as required per protocol) o Conduct study-related patient education o Perform phone triage for acute clinical issues and conduct phone assessments as required per protocol · **DOCUMENTATION:** o Responsible for timely research nursing documentation as per CPDM’s Research Nursing Documentation SOP o Facilitate study drug/product order preparation and verification · **OTHER:** o Administrative Ø Assist w/ pre-certifications and prior authorizations for procedures / prescriptions Ø Prescription call-ins / renewals o Required meetings Ø Team (disease-specific) Ø Departmental Ø SIVs o Self-directed review of new protocols, and reeducation on existing protocols o Training Ø Completing required study-related training (i.e., review of educational slides; industry-required additional GCP testing) Ø Creating and providing protocol-related inservices for Infusion Staff · **Eligible to apply for Oncology Research Nurse II after two years** · **Perform other Duties as assigned** **Requirements:** **(Applicant MUST meet each of these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant):** - Bachelor of Science in Nursing
